Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
Hello, I am Romain Letourneur! I respect your privacy and I am committed to keeping your information secure. This Privacy Policy outlines how I collect, use, and disclose personal data related to your use of my blog (laromierre.com).
I believe in transparency and data ownership. I have designed this website to minimize data collection. I do not sell your data to any third parties, and I do not monetize your attention.
2. Data Collection and Usage
I collect two types of information: data you voluntarily provide and data automatically collected for technical/analytics purposes.
A. Information You Voluntarily Provide
1. Comments (Giscus)
My comment system is powered by Giscus, which uses the GitHub API.
- How it works: When you leave a comment, you authorize the Giscus app to post on your behalf using your GitHub account. The comment is stored in the “Discussions” tab of my website’s GitHub repository.
- Data collected: I do not store your comment data in my own database. However, your GitHub username and avatar will be publicly visible next to your comment.
- Privacy: For more information, please review the Giscus Privacy Policy and GitHub’s Privacy Statement.
2. Direct Communication
If you contact me via email or a contact form, I collect your email address and the content of your message solely to reply to you.
B. Information Automatically Collected
1. Analytics (Plausible - Self-Hosted)
I use a self-hosted instance of Plausible Analytics to understand website trends without compromising your privacy.
- No Cookies: Plausible does not use cookies and does not track you across other websites.
- Anonymized Data: I do not collect personally identifiable information (PII). IP addresses are processed through a daily rotating hash (salt) to generate an anonymous daily identifier. This means I cannot identify you personally or track your visits over time (beyond a single day).
- Data Sovereignty: My Plausible instance is hosted on my private servers located in France. Your analytics data never leaves the EU and is protected by strict European privacy laws.
- What is tracked: Page URL, HTTP Referrer, Browser/OS type (aggregated), and approximate location (country/region level only, derived from IP then discarded).
2. Hosting & Security (Cloudflare)
This website is hosted and delivered via Cloudflare.
- Security: To ensure the security and reliability of the service, Cloudflare may process basic technical information (such as your IP address) to detect malicious traffic or DDoS attacks.
- Legitimate Interest: This processing is based on the legitimate interest of securing the website.
- Privacy: For more details, see Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
3. Cookies
- Analytics: I do not use cookies for analytics.
- Comments: Giscus/GitHub may set essential cookies if you log in to post a comment.
- Security: Cloudflare may set a functional cookie (e.g.,
__cf_bm) solely to distinguish between humans and bots.
4. Your Rights
Under laws like the GDPR, you have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete your Personal Information.
- For Analytics: Since I do not store personal data or persistent identifiers, I technically cannot retrieve or delete “your” analytics data because it is fully anonymized and aggregated.
- For Comments: You can manage or delete your comments directly via your GitHub account (in the repository Discussions tab) or by contacting me.
5. Contact
